On Wednesday 7th December the Gunnedah Shire Band is proud to present the Gunnedah School Band Showcase.

This event will be held over two concerts and feature performances from the following Bands:
St Xavier’s Primary School Brass Band, Gunnedah South Primary School Band, St Mary’s College, Gunnedah – Official Stage Band and the Gunnedah Shire Band.

Each year students from the Primary Schools year 3 to 6 are invited to try out a range of brass instruments and interested students are provided with a 15minute lesson each week by BandMaster Laurence Rowe. They are taught the RJ Bishop “Brass Syllabus” and as their playing develops they enter their School Band system. Many of these students will sit for their Grade 1 exam this year.
After the first year of playing students are invited into the Gunnedah Shire Band system, which conducts a Development Band and a Junior Competition Band. As part of the membership of the Band, students can continue through the 7 Grades of the RJ Bishop “Brass Syllabus”.

Once students leave primary school they may continue into the St Marys College Music system under the Direction of Miss Emma Kersley. The St Marys College Stage Band have played with Distinction this year at Both The Gunnedah and Tamworth Eisteddfods.

The Gunnedah Shire Band is very excited to support and encourage the development of School Bands in the Gunnedah Area. We thank the local schools for their support and hope that this event may encourage other young students to want to try music and enjoy the challenges and rewards that it brings.
This event is proudly supported by The Band Association of NSW and Arts NSW.
